Ormus Lodge: Year 1 in Review

Today marks the first anniversary of the founding of Ormus Lodge of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraim. I have experienced pure joy in working with such a dynamic and engaging collection of individuals. The harmonious interaction of each of you has contributed indispensably to the success of the Lodge and to the beauty of its varied expressions. My sincere gratitude goes out to all who have participated, each in their own ways. I look forward to the continued development and exploration of our modes of working, our studies, our practices and our interactions together.

Charter Signing
The charter signing of 8 December 2007 activated the talisman of Ormus Lodge and set in motion the birth of an independent, non-hierarchical, philosophical study and research lodge. We have inherited streams of esoteric freemasonry, gnosticism, rosicrucianism, martinism, alchemy and other illuminist sciences. We balance genuine respect for our predecessors with open-ended inquiry into the mysteries and secrets of nature.

We have no hierarchy.

We have no compulsory dues.

We have no dogma.

In place of these outmoded forms, we choose to meet on equal terms one with another. Rather than hierarchy – we have a decentralized association of individuals working together. Rather than compulsory dues – we have voluntary contributions of time and support provided in solidarity with the Work. Rather than dogma – we have an enthusiasm for exploration coupled with a commitment to peer review with those in our free communion.

Successions Research Group
14 June 2008 was the first gathering of the Successions Research Group. The initial intent of the group was to study the lines of Gnostic and Apostolic succession granted to us through ordinations and consecrations. This was temporarily postponed until the completion of the study of the sacraments (which is still in process at the date of this writing). These sessions ultimately generated the formation of an autocephalous ecclesiastical body called the Coptic Gnostic Church (CGC). Future reports and updates regarding these monthly sessions, and other pertinent matters, will be available through the CGC by mid 2009.

The 91 Parts of Earth/Points Chauds Working
This Working began on 12 July 2008. It explores the 91 Parts of Earth of John Dee’s Liber Scientiae Terrestris Auxilii & Victoria and the points chauds (hot points) empowerments. The techniques used have been as follows:

The Caller intones the Enochian Key of the appropriate Aethyr corresponding to the Part of the Earth (i.e. the “Terrestrial Locale”) and the hot point (points chauds). The focus of the Call is directed to the Skryer’s hot point. The Caller then draws the corresponding sigil of the Part of the Earth while intoning the corresponding Name of the Part (usually seven times), concluding with the Caller touching the hot point on the Skryer. The Skryer has to have already received the hot point empowerment previous to the session. The Skryer then communicates his or her vision and the Scribe records it. The data is then researched and archived for further availability.

Points Chauds Empowerments
In conjunction with other individuals and groups in free communion, Ormus Lodge has participated in multiple gatherings at Mt. Arabia (a local power-zone) where points chauds empowerments are often performed. We also host discussions on the points chauds, write and share reports of our experiences and experiment with various aspects of points chauds and related work.

Looking Ahead
Along with continuing the above-mentioned pursuits, Ormus Lodge also aspires towards the manifestation of the Symbolic Lodge for 2009. This includes the development of three initiatory empowerments that will serve to fortify and enhance the recipients for continued exploration of the Mysteries. We also have a commitment to facilitate a revised edition of Bishop T Allen Greenfield’s seminal work “The Compleat Rite of Memphis” – invaluable for those with an interest in the Memphis-Misraim streams. Ormus Lodge is also dedicated to further strengthening our bonds with other freely associated illuminist Lodges, Temples, Churches and Constellations that are active across the globe.

And the Work continues…

Thank you +Thomas. Having a great group of folks locally makes all the difference. And on top of that I feel the support between other bodies as a whole, such as Sothis Lodge, has been wonderful. I’m very thankful for being a part of what we are all doing.

And I’m looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.
